DOUGZ Pro-Tour 'X' featured on
Torque TV
During the
S&S Cycle 50th Anniversary the good folks at Torque TV were on hand
interviewing various builders about the bikes they built for the competition.
Saturday afternoon they spent a half-hour with Mark Platt and I going over the finer points of the Pro-Tour 'X'. While
you're surfing the net follow this link to Torque TV. http://www.torque.tv/?player=TorqueTV_27_copy&ct=1&ids=231136 You'll find a
video of the interview and a short segment of Mark and I collecting the
'People's Choice' award. What an honor for the Pro-Tour 'X' to be chosen as the
favorite bike of thousands of people who came to La Crosse in June and to be
picked by Torque TV as one of their Top 20 bikes of the event!

As many of our ‘regular’
visitors know, we are in the early stages of another build dubbed the Pro-Tour
‘S’. What we’re doing is creating a bike that will have many of the same
characteristics of the Pro-Tour ‘X’ but we’re basing it on a Genuine Sportster chassis as our platform. We’ve dropped the seat
area 3 ¼ inches to put you in a nice pocket (only 24.5 inches off the
pavement!), stretched the swingarm 6 inches to give
the bike ¾ inch MORE wheelbase than a full size dresser, added StreetGlide air shocks, built an oil tank that’s cradled
between the swingarm horizontals and set the battery
just above the oil tank.
What you end up with is a
Lightweight, long-wheelbase, low center-of-gravity, drop seat Hot Rod with many
attributes of a purebred Drag bike and it includes the racy yet functional
fairing, the side covers that double as storage compartments, and of course our
exclusive ‘clamshell’ rear fender/storage area that is found on the Pro-Tour
‘X’. With a seat height 2 inches LOWER than a Standard Softail
or Sportster ‘Low’ and a full 3 inches lower than a StreetGlide even a person with the shortest of inseams will
sit comfortably flat-footed on this scoot. Plus the added benefit of being
roughly 200 lbs. LIGHTER than a StreetGlide!
Keep checking the DOUGZ website
as we’ll begin adding progress images real soon in the ‘Custom Built Bikes’
gallery.

DOUGZ ‘Convertibagger’ For
My loss will be someone else’s
gain! Building the new Pro-Tour ‘S’ means I won’t be needing the shop’s ‘Convertibagger’ any longer and the price has been reduced
even MORE to give this beauty a new home! The Convertibagger
has served me well since it first hit the road in mid-2004 and was featured in
the Jan/Feb 2007 issue of IronWorks Magazine. Tell
anyone you know who is looking for a sweet bagger, custom built with the taller
rider in mind. For more info on the Convertibagger

In Mid-July we did a custom paint and
accessory treatment on a 2008 Sportster that was
raffled off on July 26th at the “Thunder
Ride for Juvenile Diabetes.” On July 24th
we had our first ‘Bike Night’ where the Sportster was
unveiled. We had a nice turn out and as you can see a little side show by one
of our ‘Boss Hoss’ friends! We had this gathering
just to get a feel for how many people would show up and the next day I decided
it would make more sense to call it something other than a ‘Bike Night’. After
all, our core business is painting ALL kinds of vehicles. We may do more of
these next summer based on feedback we’ve received, and if we do you’ll be the
first ones to know as we’ll announce the monthly ‘Full-Throttle
Thursdays’ right here! All types of vehicles will
be invited to show up. Stay tuned! By the way, the Thunder Ride was again
hugely successful, raising something in the neighborhood of $100,000.00 for
this very worthy cause! We’re proud to be a part of it and look forward to next
year’s event.

Fall Flood Run – September 20th
That right, its Flood Run time
again and we’ll be setting up the FREE Coffee and Donuts for anyone interested
in swinging by on their way through or out of town. As usual this is NOT an
organized ride so you can come and go as you please. Stop in, say Hi, grab a
cup of Joe and a Nutritious donut, take a peek at our latest projects then get
your butt back out on the road for a great day of riding and viewing all the
craziness that comes with being on the Flood Run! We’ll have the Dough ‘n Joe
going from 8:30 until 11:00 then we’re hittin’ the
road as well.
Our Hours
Most of you are familiar with our ‘By
Appointment Only’ business hours, but it seems many aren’t aware that we’re
WIDE OPEN every Friday afternoon from Noon until 5 O’ Clock. So if you just
want to drop in to see what we’ve been up to, any Friday afternoon is a great time
to swing by! As usual, if you need some
one-on-one time to discuss your upcoming project, just give us a shout so we
can set aside some time whenever its most convenient
for you - Monday through Friday.
DOUGZ Winter
schedule
Being I’m on the subject of your
projects, this would be a fitting place to mention our winter schedule… its
filling up fast, as usual! If you’ve got custom paint, chrome accessories,
wheels, whatever you can imagine you’d like to have done on your bike to take
it from Ho-Hum Stock to “Holy shit is
that cool!” NOW is the time to get on our schedule –
NOT in January as we’re usually booked into June by then. Same goes for our
Street Rod clients… if you’re in need of custom paint and/or body mods you’ll need to get on our schedule quick if you want
it done before next spring!
